This is a book project started in 2021, (hopefully) finished by 2025.
It began as "The White Noise" and was shortlisted in Urbanautica Institute Awards 2021 / Category: Representation of Space, Architecture, and Conflicts.
The second version grew into a handmade artistic book with the help of a group of Chinese artists (MiscLab) in Tianjin.
Earlier this year, I bumped into an old friend whom I haven't met for a decade; we were giving each other updates for those lost years, and I was so proud to tell the reasoning behind The White Noise when he interrupted: why not pink noise? I was like, hey it's not a good joke, I'm serious. But he opened a wikipedia page and showed me what pink noise is, scientifically. In Hollywood road, in a dark bar, 10pm, it took me 2 minutes to realise how innocent I was, as Pink Noise is exactly the metaphor I was stealing, yet I thought there is only one type of noise in the prevailing world! And the karma is, inside The White Noise dummy book, I actually used pink musical notes to guide the audience - and why pink? I was challenged in a group critique previously and that was an unresolved issue to myself for long.
Now everything ties together. This project finds its real identity.
Next, I will be looking for a publisher to turn this pdf into a real book. It'll be a rundown of a 4/4 percussion exercise consisting of 7 chapters that takes up to 120+ pages (please drop me a message if you'd like to own one!).
Finally, while exploring the actual publishing space, I cannot wait to showcase a few excerpts below. And I deliberately hide the Chinese essay pages as a bonus track for people who share the same mother tongue with me.
